When I first began this Marilyn Monroe fan art group about four years ago, I sent affiliation requests to groups that were similar to this, or related - celebrity art groups, digital or traditional media groups - most groups were cooperative and approved the affiliation requests with no problem.
However, our group's affiliation was turned down by two or three what deivantArt calls "Super Groups."
These are groups that pay a fee every several months to get more perks and widgets for their groups. They are more picky about who they choose to affiliate with.
At least two of these groups said that they would approve our affiliation request if we had at least 500 members.
As of June 26, 2015, we have 470 Members and 491 Watchers.
I don't know if any of our current members can bump our members up to 500.
I'm guessing it would take another several months to a year to get 30 more members if things unfold naturally.
I was wondering if any of you would consider asking any of your friends to at least be a temporary member (they can un-join this group later) to at least get us up to the 500 quota for awhile, then I could reapply for affiliation at some of the super groups. I would probably need a few weeks to apply for affiliation.
Some group admins don't check their queues (group message center) for days or weeks, so if I applied for affiliation, my request might sit there for days or weeks before they click "Yes" or "Decline" on it.
I suppose this isn't a big deal. We can certainly survive without those affiliations. I just thought it would be nice.
This also gives you an idea of some of the politics that goes on behind running a deviantArt group, if you've never been a group admin or moderator before.
If someone decides to temporarily join to help us increase our numbers but wants to leave after awhile: To leave (un-join) a group
Go to the top left hand side of the group's main page, click on your screen name, and an option that says "Leave the Group" should be visible. Select that to leave the group.
If someone does sign up, or gets a friend to sign up to help out, I thank you in advance.
